The NDMTA Music Rally is a noncompetitive event for piano students of all ages and skill levels. Rally is a great opportunity for musical growth that allows students to challenge themselves and meet goals.
Students participate in written and keyboard exams and perform two contrasting pieces of music for adjudications. Music Rally theory/technic workbooks are available for the students to use throughout the year which contain lesson by lesson goals to help the student become competent in all areas of the level he/she is to be evaluated.
Areas of Evaluation:
- Performance
- Written theory
- Technique
- Sight Reading
- Harmonization
- Aural
Music Rallies are held once a year. Each local association, sponsoring a Rally, determines the date and time. The state provides a complete rally packet containing the tests and judges sheets for local associations that have scheduled a Music Rally. A Rally Syllabus is available for purchase for teachers who have participating students.
The Rally Syllabus, Teacher's Guide and Student Workbooks may be ordered through this website: Illinois MTA AIM Publications. Study tests for levels A, B, and C are not available from AIM Publications and may be downloaded here: Study Test A, Study Test B, and Study Test C.
The NDMTA Music Rally is a wonderful teaching tool for goal setting for the piano student. It promotes the learning of skills that will benefit the student throughout his/her life.
