History
Valley City Music Teachers Association (VCMTA) is a small chapter of the North Dakota Music Teachers Association (NDMTA). With the main focus of the organization being the professional development of its members, all programs are designed to help members improve themselves as musicians and teachers. VCMTA makes an immense contribution to the North Dakota Music Teachers Association. In recent years, Valley City members have included numerous positions on the NDMTA state board, including NDMTA Vice-president and President (twice), the state MusicLink Chair, the state Newsletter Editor, the NDMTA Technology Chair/Webmaster, the College Faculty Chair, two state MNTA Foundation Chairs, Collegiate and Chamber Music Competitions Chair, and two Composer Commissioning Chairs, as well as the Junior Competitions Chair and Competitions Coordinator for the West Central Division.
Three members have lectured at numerous national, state, and local music conferences and meetings and one has been honored as an MTNA Foundation Fellow. In addition, four members have been selected as the North Dakota Music Teacher Association "Teacher of the Year," in 1996, 1997, 2001, and 2004. VCMTA has also hosted the NDMTA Conferences at Valley City State University four times, in 1977, 1984, 1995 and 2002, and will co-host the 2007 Conference in Williston.
