North Dakota Music Teachers Association

Independent Music Teachers Forum

The IMTF was given status and support in 1972 by the MTNA Administrative Committee following its first session at the MTNA Convention in Portland, Oregon. An Independent Music Teacher is defined as a person who provides facilities for the teaching of music and who establishes curriculum, policies, and tuition.

Concerns specifically related to the IMT are identified, and programs are determined for the professional advancement of such teachers. Direct contact, group contact, and surveys are used to accomplish these purposes.

Major concerns of the IMTF include certification, release time, public relations, studio policies, lesson fees, continuing involvement of the young college graduate, licensing, and zoning.
