Fargo-Moorhead MTA History

In September of 1956, five Fargo-Moorhead piano teachers formed a study group. The next year a successful effort was made to enlarge the group. They organized the name of Fargo-Moorhead Piano Teachers Association. In 1958 they changed their name to Fargo-Moorhead Music Teachers Association, adopted a constitution, and affiliated with the state and national group.

FMMTA now averages 65 members. They meet at Olivet Lutheran Church the first Wednesday of each month from September through May. Their programs include a wide variety of pedagogical topics to further their member's professional advancement. FMMTA holds a rally each spring and a Multi-Piano Festival every other fall. In addition, FMMTA awards Junior and Senior High student piano scholarships each spring.
