History
The Badlands Chapter of the Music Teachers Association started in 1986 and was active through 1992. It had 12-15 members and held rallies and recitals. The Badlands Chapter was reactivated in August of 1995 and currently has 14 members.
In October of 1996, the Badlands MTA and Dickinson State University hosted their 1st Annual Monster Concert. The Badlands Piano Extravaganza, formerly the Monster Concert, has become an annual event much anticipated by students and the community. The funds raised at this concert are used to provide music scholarships to music camp for students of our chapter's members.
The Badlands MTA meets the first Thursday of the month, September to May. Continuing education programs are presented at each meeting. Scholarship winners are invited to perform at our fall meetings.
